Crypto basics
Crypto trades 24/7 and volatility is structural, so the goal is a repeatable playbook: pick a regime, use indicators as validation, and size risk first. A) Choose one regime (do not mix) 1) Trend following: define trend on Daily/4H, execute on 1H/15m. A simple filter is MA20 above MA60 for bullish structure. Prefer pullbacks that hold MA20 with weaker volume, then enter on momentum return. 2) Range trading: when price is boxed between clear support and resistance, use RSI(14) as a helper (overbought/oversold is context, not a trigger). Look for exhaustion at the range edges plus fading volume. 3) News driven spikes: funding, liquidations, listings and policy headlines can create gaps. Reduce leverage before events and wait for volatility (ATR) to normalize. B) How to use indicators without overfitting - MA: a structure filter, not a precision entry. - Volume: valid breakouts often show expansion and acceptance above a key level; failed breakouts revert quickly. - MACD: focus on momentum and divergence, not just crosses. - ATR: practical for stops. Many traders use 1.5–2x ATR as a volatility stop guideline, adjusted to nearby structure. C) Risk rules that keep you alive - Define R (max loss per trade), often 0.5% to 1% of equity. - Position size = risk amount / (entry minus stop distance). - Avoid mechanical averaging down and reduce frequency after a losing streak. Treat indicators as confirmation tools and risk management as survival tools. In Crypto, longevity beats one lucky trade.
